Recollections of the College El

Tobogganing down "Mount" Bundy, spills in the snow, hot chocolate waiting in milk containers at foot of hill.  Dick Ervin flirting with all the girls.  Margo Helber idolized by all the boys, and her cute companion Sandra Hershey.  Steve Hall & Donna Pierce leading me into all sorts of adventures my parents didn't approve of.  My naively believing Martha Gunton when she told me that my cat was her cat, and took it home with her.  Barbara Schmidt a whiz in soft ball, and me one of the last to be chosen on any team, what a peach!   Loving to play marbles, but always losing to the likes of Thom Rand who possessed "steelies".  David Peterson coming to my rescue when a gang of class mates pelted me with snow, and I was near tears.  Mrs. Thiers trying to get us yahoos to sing, a hopeless cause.    Miss Praeger bringing social studies alive in exciting ways, and giving us all a piece of goat's milk cheese after her trip to Holland.  Burning Old Man Winter in effigy.  Excused from class to watch Queen Elisabeth's coronation on TV in Jack Serier's home, and scolded by our teacher for staying extra long.

Personal News

A former atheist, God became real to me for the first time during summer retreat at Mt. Hermon Camp Ground, CA, 1957.  Born-again as result of Kennedy Evangelism Explosion presentation in 1973.  Want to thank College El class-mate David Wilson for inviting me to church for the first time in 1953.  That planted the seed of desire to know Jesus.  He was later given the God & Country award in Boy Scouts in the 7th grade.  Thanks, David, wherever you are!

Married Kathleen Anne White of Orinda, CA, in 1964, still happily together.  She has taught grade-school in California, Michigan, and Missouri, and now teaches Sunday School in the Dioula language, and ladies in the Bible School in the Moore language.  She is far more athletic than I to say the least, loves tennis, skiing, water skiing, morning hikes, etc.  She will therefore live far longer than this couch potato.

Children: Mrs. Jessica Graustein, Rocklin, CA. -- B.A. Biology from Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL and M.A. Biology from Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, IL -- taught biology for awhile, now looks after our two grand-children Megan 3, and Ian 1.  Her husband is a computer whiz at Oracle.  Miss Natalie Sudborough, Odessa, MO --  Graduated from high school in Ivory Coast, B.A. from Evangel University, Springfield, MO -- teaches high school French in Odessa, MO -- loves to travel -- just got back from Timbuktu!
